When recording artist and Petersburg native Trey Songz planned to celebrate his Back Home album release, he commissioned a local mural from artist Jason Ford. The mural was unveiled during a city block party on Bank Street, where hundreds gathered to honor both Songz and his homecoming.
The piece features powerful imagery connected to Songz’s personal and musical journey. Ford began the project after being approached directly by Songz’s team, using vibrant colors and detailed portraiture to capture the artist’s energy and impact.
The block party wasn’t just a celebration of the album—it was a moment for the community to rally, masked and distanced, and, in Ford’s words, “give him his flowers while he can still smell them.”
Through this work, Ford aimed to create an enduring and uplifting reminder of returning home, embracing your roots, and inspiring the next generation to follow their own paths to greatness.
