Richmond-based muralist Jason Ford recently partnered with the nonprofit organization Housing Families First, Altria and volunteer network HandsOn Greater Richmond to complete a meaningful mural project at the Housing Families First site in eastern Henrico County.
The mural, designed and painted in collaboration with volunteers, staff, and community members, serves as a visual representation of the organization’s mission: to give families facing homelessness the opportunity to build a legacy by providing a path to a permanent home.
As an organization with over 25 years of experience helping families transition from homelessness to stable housing, Housing Families First envisions a Richmond where every child and family has a safe place to call home. The mural honors that vision — incorporating imagery of home, growth, community, and resilience.
Ford facilitated the creative process with a focus on inclusivity, empowerment, and artistic storytelling. Through vibrant color and symbolism, the finished piece reflects the strength of the families served, the compassion of the community, and the vital work being done to address housing insecurity in the region.
This project stands as both a celebration of Housing Families First’s legacy and a reminder that art can help shape a more just and welcoming future for all.
