Brax Lives On | A Mural of Memory, Music & Meaning

In Richmond’s Northside, a mural stands as both homage and healing. Richmond-born rapper, poet and fashion visionary Braxton “Brax” Baker is memorialized on the side of Da Spot Recording Studio in a vibrant, expressive portrait created by Jason Ford.

Brax’s journey as a creative force began early. She was teaching dance by the age of seven later becoming dance captain at Henrico High School where she graduated in 2016. Her artistry crossed boundaries blending music, fashion, writing, and advocacy. At the time of the mural’s creation she had already made her mark as a recording artist, social media influencer and cultural voice who inspired many.

The Brax Lives On mural was unveiled in June 2021, fulfilling a heartfelt wish for her family and community. For Ford, the project carried special meaning... years earlier he had taught Brax’s sister, Briana at Henrico High School. When she later reached out to ask him to create a mural in her sister’s honor it felt like a full-circle moment rooted in trust, respect and shared history.

Painted with bold contrast and dynamic energy the mural captures Brax’s strength, style, and light. It has become a place for reflection, celebration and a public reminder that creativity and compassion can leave a lasting impact on the people and places we love.
