Artist Jason Ford was commissioned to create a powerful mural titled, Say Her Name for the Apple TV series SWAGGER, directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood. Located in Richmond, Virginia, this striking work is featured in Season 1 of the series adding both visual impact and cultural depth to the show’s storytelling.
The mural stands as a bold reminder of the importance of acknowledging and addressing systemic issues that disproportionately affect Black women and girls. Through its scale, placement and emotional resonance, the piece demands visibility for stories that too often go unheard.
By featuring this work in a prominent location, the creators of SWAGGER aimed to spark conversation and inspire action both on-screen and off. For Ford, it was an opportunity to merge art and advocacy, using public space to honor lives, affirm identities and amplify a critical message.
